FAQs
Are you a store?
No, we are a seasonal children’s consignment and overstock sale. Each year, we will hold two sales – one for Spring/Summer merchandise and one for Fall/Winter merchandise. We will at times have brand name overstock only sales as well.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards except American express with photo id.
How do I register to become a consignor?
Click here to register as a new consignor. It will take you to a page where you will fill out some personal information and press enter. You will then be given a consignor number. We recommend writing that number down because most of us will forget our numbers at some point or another. Also, remember to write down your password. You are then free to enter your items as you please.
What percentage will I receive if I become a consignor?
You will receive 65% of the sale price. You will also be charged a $7.00 advertising fee. This will be deducted from your final sales.
Do you provide a type of “drop and run” service for people that want to consign, but don’t have the time to get everything together?
Yes. We ask that all items are cleaned. If the clothing is not already on hangers, you are expected to provide hangers. Please make sure all of the clothing is on the accepted brand list. You will still be able to get the consignor night pass as well as a guest pass. You will then need to pick-up your leftover clothing at the regular pick-up times. You will receive 50% of the sale price if you would like us to provide this service for you. Please contact Natalie by e-mail or phone to sign up for this service (256) 757-9375 or natalie@thepurplemonkeyboutique.com.
When can I expect my check?
We try to have the checks ready at pick up, however, sometimes we get caught up sorting your items and are unable to cut the checks. If this happens we will mail your checks out the next day after the sale.
Do I need an appointment to drop off my items?
Yes, you will need an appointment to drop off your items. We will try to make drop off go as quickly as possible because we know that your time is very valuable! It will help us if you have your items sorted according to gender and size. *Please make sure items that you are bringing are accepted brand names.*
What do I need to bring to my drop off appointment?
Your items need to be freshly laundered and hanging on hangers with appropriate tags on them. It will make the process go much quicker if you can have the items sorted by gender and size.
Questions about tagging and pricing
How should I price my items?
Price the items to sell! If you are willing to part with the item and do not want it back price it to sell. We suggest that you set the price at 30% to 35% of the retail value. This means that if you paid $20.00 for a shirt than you would price it at $6. Items that are new or barley worn feel free to price higher. We have noticed that clothing that is pressed will sell better and generally can sell for more. We suggest that you price outfits a little higher than separates.
What is the minimum price that I can price an item?
The minimum is $1.00. Each item should be priced in $1.00 increments.
Do all my tags need to be printed with a barcode?
Yes, you must register each item online and print it with the barcode on it. If your items do not have tags with barcodes on them they will not be allowed into the sale. If you do not have access to a computer or printer you will need to contact Emily.
How should my items be presented to sell?
We ask that you have plain hangers. We do not want any hangers that have the size number at the top. You can get wire hangers from any dry cleaners for free if you ask. This only helps to maintain a consistent uniform look and helps the items to sell better.
Please put your item on the hanger with the hook facing the left like a question mark and place your tag on the upper right corner (when looking at it) of your garment. MAKE SURE YOUR SAFETY PIN IS HORIZONTAL
EXAMPLE:

When I price my shoes in a Ziploc bag, how do I attach the price tag?
Stick it directly onto the bag with a safety pin, or put it inside the bag with size and price showing. Please make sure the price tag is visible.
Should I iron my clothes?
Wrinkled clothes do not sell! We will likely send them home to you if they are extremely wrinkled. Please do what is necessary to make your clothes look clean and nice. Remember, the better they look, the more likely they are to sell! A great product to try is Downy Wrinkle Releaser.
Can I volunteer to work so I can shop early?
Yes, our sale would not be possible without our volunteers. Thank you in advance for all of your help! One thing we will mention is that we need cheerful happy people to be the face of our sale. You may schedule your volunteer time at the time you register for our sale.
There are many ways to volunteer:
With your time
The first way is to spend three hours working the sale. As a volunteer you will be able to shop during the volunteer sale which will be held on Wednesday Thursday Feb 4th @5:00pm.
Yard sign and flyer distribution
We are looking for people who will help spread the word about The Purple Monkey Boutique in their community by distributing yard signs and flyers. This involves picking up the signs or flyers from us and distributing them. If you own a business or work for a business such as doctors office, preschool, daycare, dance studio, or anywhere Mom’s go, you can earn a volunteer pass by passing out flyers.
Media
If you know anyone in print, TV or radio media who can cover the sale and we get press out of it, that will earn you a volunteer pass!
Have other ideas?
Do you have any other marketing ideas you would like to earn a volunteer pass for? Please contact us. We love new ideas!
Questions about the Pre-Sale
Can I bring someone with me to the consignor pre-sale?
YES! You will be given 2 passes for consignor shopping night. One will be to enter at 5 p.m. and the other to enter at 7 p.m. You are welcome to give the 7 p.m. pass to anyone that you wish. The reason that the pass is not for the same time is because we feel like the consignors deserve first rights to any item that they wish to purchase. You are welcome to shop first and then meet up with your guest later in the evening to show them all the bargains you have found.
Can I bring children to the Pre-Sale?
NO! Children are not allowed at the Pre-sale. This is a time for moms to enjoy shopping for their children – not with them. We want this to be a fun time for everyone that has worked so hard to get their items ready to sell. It is also not fair to ask parents to make accommodations for their children and then allow others to bring theirs. To make sure that the items you buy fit your child we encourage you to measure your child and then bring a tape measure and measurements. Also, you can trace your child’s foot and then cut it out in order to measure for shoes. Just make sure that you come and enjoy having a special mom’s night out!
How should I carry my clothes when I am shopping on consignor night?
We suggest you bring a laundry basket with your name on it. We will have some boxes for you to use, however those will be very limited.
How can I pay for my items?
The Purple Monkey Boutique takes cash, check with proper id, and all major credit cards.
Questions about Pick up, and Donating
What do I do if I decide to donate my items after the sale is over?
The best thing to do is to wait until the sale is completely over. You may then call us and tell us that you wish to donate your items or you can come and pick the items that you wish to take and donate the ones that you don’t want. However, when you do not mark your items before hand on your tags we cannot be responsible for giving you a tax credit.
What if I forget to pick up my items on time or need to make other arrangements?
We would love to be able to hold everyone’s items until it were convenient for them to pick them up. However, we only have our building rented for a short time and we have to vacate them. We have to get our charities in and out of there in a hurry. We have set times for people to pick up their items. If you see that you will be unable to pick up during that time please call a friend and have them pick them up for you. Then call us and let us know who will be picking up your items so that for security reasons we will be able to give your items to that person. If you are unable to pick up your items during the allotted time, those items become property of The Purple Monkey Boutique. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this!
